About Us

Welcome to The Rigneys!

My name is Jenny, but I’m most often called Jen. I do the majority of blogging here, but every once in a while, we get a surprise post from my husband and it quickly becomes a favorite at The Rigneys.

We are a family of four and happily anticipate the growth of that number one day.

Our story began in 2004, when Joe and I met during our final years at Texas A&M University. After marrying in 2005, we boxed up our belongings and said goodbye to the Lone Star State and headed north to the Twin Cities.

Most importantly, we are followers of Jesus Christ. We are always on the receiving end of his mercy and grace. He is the author of our lives and our only boast.

A bit on each of us:

joe…

Works full-time at Bethlehem College and Seminary as the Instructor of Theology and Christian Worldview. He couldn’t imagine a job better suited for him. Joe is currently working on his second masters from New Saint Andrews College. When his studies are completed, he will have a M.St. in Classical Christian Studies. However, if you were to ask him what his greatest accomplishment has been thus far, he’d say potty-training our toddler in a day.

When not at work, you’ll find him wrestling our little boys, taking me on walks, working on house projects, discipling younger men, playing ball, or reading. And he’s been known to read anything from theology to the back of cereal boxes. His interests include: history, economics, politics, theology, current events, satire, British literature and biographies.

He’s an incredible husband and father, perfect for us in every way. I have yet to meet a better man.

Being a wife, mommy to our boys, and a homemaker is the delight of my life. Even on days when I find crackers in my bra and the laundry pile measures taller than my waist- I wouldn’t trade my life for the world. One day Sam said to me, “Momma, your hair looks tired.” And he was right, it did look tired. But even then, I still wouldn’t trade it.

Prior to staying at home, I worked full-time at Desiring God from 2006-2009 and continue to be thankful for my years there.

I like to more than dabble in photography, cooking, gardening, crafting, reading, celebrating, and creating traditions.

sam…

Our firstborn was given to us after three years of waiting and asking the Lord for children. We named him Samuel Jonathan.

Sam is a silly, curious, creative, spirited, talkative, active, and hilarious 3-year old. He fills our home with much joy and lots to laugh about. We couldn’t be more smitten with him. He loves his momma and little brother, but it is no secret that in his eyes, his Daddy hung the moon.

peter…

Our second son was born in July of 2011. A delightful surprise from the Lord whom we named Peter William. He is very busy, very strong, very smiley, and very determined to do everything big brother can do. When he sets his little mind to something, he is bound to see it through.

Peter adds a loud, giggly, joyful, and squealing soundtrack to our home. Perhaps the greatest hit we hear is that of him belly-laughing with his older brother. He has indeed won all our hearts over.

Peter 2 Years Old-6

We often look at each other, Joe and I, and just smile from ear to ear. We are completely overwhelmed by God’s kindness and mercy and faithfulness towards us. He has given us a full life and we are on an exciting journey, one we couldn’t have thought up on our own even if we tried.

We couldn’t be more thankful.

    Jen,

After a few months of following your blog, I am just now reading your family’s bio. For some reason, I thought y’all (can’t help it…I’m from TX) were just there for a season, and that y’all would be headed back to TX sometime. Now, I better understand the new house purchase.

How refreshing it is to read about your fullt-time position…just blesses my socks off!

What an archive you’re creating for Sam…he and his family will so appreciate it someday.

    Much love,

    Hi Jen,
My name is Rebecca – a MN native currently transplanted to California. My husband is in seminary out here and I stumbled across your blog through pinterest, I think. We also have 2 littles that we love to pieces and yours are just adorable.
I love your posts, your thoughts, your honesty, your pictures, etc.
Where in Minneapolis are you? We are both from Minneapolis (Maple Grove and Minnetonka) and went to Bethel.
Anyways, your blog is one of my favs in my reader. Thank you for giving me a piece of MN – and understanding how hard it is to be away from “home” – no matter where home is!
    Have a good weekend!

Hi Jen! I stumbled upon your blog while on Pinterest and then proceeded to add you on there because I love your ideas! I am also from Minnesota; born and raised! My husband and I and our new baby only live there seasonally now (April to August) and spend the rest of the year in Zagreb, Croatia where my husband plays professional hockey. It is so nice and refreshing to read your blog and see all of the fun activities you do with your famliy! I am also a stay-at-home mom who also enjoys blogging occasionally- (www.katiesertich.blogspot.com) Too bad that we don’t live near you in the summers for play-dates, I feel we have a lot of interests in common (cooking, kids, photography, faith, family…) We live in Coleraine (WAAAAYYYY Up north, near Grand Rapids).
Keep up the great job blogging (I’m a blog slacker who needs to step it up!) And enjoy the beautiful weather in Minneapolis right now!!
