blog giveaway :: birthday banner!

July 1, 2010

Last Saturday, we celebrated Sam’s 1st birthday party!  Like I mentioned before, one of my most favorite things about planning his party was all the fun I had in making the decorations.

My favorite thing to sew for the party was his birthday banner…

I ended up having more than enough fabric to make two banners, so I thought I would make one for his party and one to give away.  This is where you come in!

Here’s how to win…

1.) Leave a comment on my blog telling me one of your favorite kid’s birthday party themes by Sunday night, July 4th.

2.) All the names will go in a bowl and I will draw a winner on Monday morning, July 5th.

3.) I will post the winner and mail the birthday banner out the following day!

I am planning on making banners for my niece and nephew, so this can be a fun gift to give a friend or relative with small children.

Next giveaway will be these Quilted Alphabet Letters

Happy Commenting!

super cute! We met at the Holsts in March…we have a son named Jackson that will be one in three weeks. One fun birthday idea is to do an airplane theme. You can go all out with proper inflight snacks, a movie, food on tv trays, etc. I’ve seen it done for a one year old’s birthday and when I was a kid I went to someone’s ninth birthday that was a “trip” in an airplane that they set up in their living room.

You did such a great job with Sam’s birthday! I have a friend that did Sam I Am for her Samuel last year – I can see you having so much fun with that when he turns two! You’re an inspiring and encouraging person – I love reading your blog. 🙂

It was July 1991, we had two Japanese girls staying with us for the month. They were having an “American” experience. Our home had a soon to be nine year old-Anna, a five year old named Sam, and a blonde toddler named Emily. We wondered how we would show these Japanese girls (who had become a sweet part of our family) how we celebrate birthdays, as Anna’s was this month (27) and we thought we would pull out all the red-white-blue and make it an “American-USA” smashing time. They loved it and so did Anna, because that year, she had two older sisters for the first and last time.

My little boys one year bday party is in a month. We are using monkeys as the theme since they are his favorite thing! We will have a moonwalk for the bigger kids, a baby pool for the little ones, and sno cones for all! His nursery is a jungle theme so we’ve kept our little one around the animals all through his first year. Top it off with a one year zoo membership and he should be a pro ;).

Honestly, Jenny, I think Sam’s birthday was the first child’s birthday party I went to that had a theme! Those cupcakes were awesome. 🙂

    Love you!

When Shiloh was 34 ( yes, you read that correctly) she told me she really felt cheated in life because she had never had that ultra cool Strawberry Shortcake birthday party she had wanted when she was 7. I chewed on that for a while, and when her 35th rolled around, guess who got a full blown, decorations hanging, balloons mounted, riibbons flowing STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE party. Yup, you guessed it! And by the way, if I happen to win this, guess who gets this banner…OREN and CINDY!

i wished i were a better party planner/thrower, but my idea for Hannah Kate’s 1st birthday party is a costume one since it’s near Halloween. I know, I’m very creative.

Levi had two parties with a LOTR theme. For one Jon made an oozing smoking Mt Doom cake and for another he created a Dead Marshes cake with LOTR acton figures submerged in brownish purple JELL-O. Boys his age thought it looked really gross and ate it. What a cool dad!

I really must get sewing on my fabric! Maybe I’ll skip chores for a week and sew instead. Hmmm… =)
I really haven’t done theme birthday parties. We usually just have family parties. But I have decorated a lot of cakes requested by little boys. My favorite one so far is probably Pooh’s honey pot – bet you know whose cake that was.

I have actually been brainstorming this very thing since Kale will be turning 1 on September 13…my favorite idea so far is doing a book theme where babies and parents can come dressed as their favorite book character and then actually have a storyteller come do a baby appropriate story time! You could then incorporate this into your decorations and so on… : D I love your “Sam, I Am” idea for Sam’s next birthday…very creative!!!

A “Pirate’s Party” sounds fun! From “loot bags” (goody bags) and eye patches, to play swords and a treasure hunt. The children would probably need to be a little older, maybe like 5 years old or so to enjoy it all?
Anyways, “Sam, I Am” sounds awesome. Birthday #2 will be here before you know it! 🙂

    Jenny

You did a great job with Sam’s first birthday. With 5 kids it is really hard to know which one I liked the best. For a season, my oldest son had a fascination with trains and we did a train themed party for about 4 years – each year with a different cake!
However as my kids got older, we decided to make birthdays a chance to serve others and since I have 4 biological kids and 2 birth dates, it made planning some what challenging at times. For almost 4 years, for my 2 that are born on the same day in June, we would schedule time at Feed My Starving Children, invite families that my kids knew well and spent 2 hours packaging food for children and their families. After working hard for 2 hours, we would go to Schultz lake for a B-B-Q and fellowship with those who worked along side. It was such a sweet time.

Have fun planning and celebrating this little gift from the Lord. Corrie

That party seems like a total blast!! I wasn’t going to enter this giveaway because I SO want the awesome letters but I couldn’t resist, it is so adorable!! You should give me sewing lessons, I could pay you, it could be…legendary.

Is it fair to enter this drawing even though I don’t have a boy? Surely someday I’ll have one and want to use this for his birthday, right?! 🙂

Favorite birthday party themes… hmmm… I think the best theme is one that reflects the unique interests of the birthday child, so if they love cows, then throw a cow party, but if their “thing” is music then a rock star party it is!

Ack, I’m too late to submit my name! I loved the birthday banner you made Sam. And someday, I really, really want to throw a rodeo party for JJ…complete with a trip to a real rodeo.

Anyways, at least I know where you bought the cute fabrics for your banner. 🙂
