fourteen months

August 24, 2010

14 months have come and gone so quickly.  I remember when you were a newborn and I thought to myself, “He will never be big enough to wear his 6 month clothes!” Well baby, you are fitting just fine into your 18 month clothes with no end in sight to your growing belly!

This was you a year ago today…

You are much bigger now, have more hair, and it is much easier to get smiles from you.  You are as enjoyable to us now as you have ever been with a little sense of humor that keeps us laughing throughout the day.

Turning fourteen months has brought with it a number of changes.  Changes in your personality, changes in your life circumstances.  The past few months, you have been living out of boxes and your home environment has changed quite a bit. You have had to adapt to new babysitters, a new home, a new room, new boundaries, and a new schedule.  Overall, you have done really well and we have been so proud of you.

You are talking more and more everyday and you at least try to say every word we teach you.  A few of your regulars would be: Dada, Mama, Nah (No), Yeah (Yes) Ah Da (All done), Ba (Ball), Hi dare (Hi there), Papa, Sssss (Sassy), Ah-ca (Avocado), Nigh nigh (Night night), Boo-bear (Blueberry), Nana (Banana).

One of your favorite toys right now is your little walker that we bought you when we moved into our new house.  You love pushing it around and collecting little toys and putting them in the cart.  We’ve seen the independent side of your personality come out while playing with this toy, we can tell you feel like a big boy behind the wheel.

Lately you have been looking straight at us after you do something new, you want affirmation and for us to join in your excitement- which we are happy to do!

You are very outgoing and talkative when you are around your family.  You really enjoy being around people, but lately when you are around others that you don’t know very well, you tend to be a little more shy and reserved.  You’d rather observe what other people are saying and doing instead of being the center of attention.

You are a very curious little boy and love to soak up everything in your little world.  You have become very cuddly in the past month or so and like to run up to us and bury yourself in our legs.

Some of the things you love these days are playing in the bathtub, watching other little kids, imitating others, dancing to music, reading, playing outside, looking out the windows in our sun room, and being able to just walk around and explore on your own.

Some of your recurring dislikes would be: having your diaper changed, being told “no”, being picked up when you are on one of your independent explorations, and telling daddy goodbye when he leaves for work.

You weigh around 23 pounds.  You are cutting your sixth tooth.  You could eat an entire avocado at every meal.  You love car rides and walks in your stroller.  And you have the ability to send your mother into shock every time you decide to showcase your temper or strong opinions.  Thankfully these times are few and far between, but it is during these times when I’m reminded of how dependent we are on the Lord for mercy in raising you.

We love you, Sam.  We feel beyond privileged to be your parents.

There’s no one else we’d rather have wake us up in the morning than you.
